ABOUT THE ROLE
The AI Technical Lead, Azure AI & Agentic Engineering leads the design, development, and delivery of AI-powered applications and agentic systems, with a strong focus on Azure AI Foundry, GitHub Copilot, and enterprise-scale LLM integration.
This is a hands-on leadership role that blends deep technical expertise with delivery ownership. The role is centred on building agent-based solutions, orchestrating AI workflows, and rapidly developing PoCs and MVPs that deliver measurable business value. A key responsibility is enabling organisations to adopt agentic AI patterns by integrating large language models such as OpenAI, Claude, and Gemini into production-grade applications, developer ecosystems, and automation pipelines.
The ideal candidate is a strong software engineering leader who can guide high-performing teams through the transition to AI-enabled application development and modern engineering workflows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Agentic AI & Application Engineering
Build and deploy AI applications using Azure AI Foundry and related Azure services.
Lead the design and implementation of agentic AI systems.
Develop Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions using structured and unstructured enterprise data.
Design and implement agent orchestration patterns.
Rapidly prototype and deliver PoCs and MVPs to validate AI use cases and business value.
AI Engineering & Developer Productivity
Lead enterprise adoption and optimisation of GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted development practices.
Embed AI into engineering workflows, including:
Code generation, review, and refactoring
Test automation and documentation generation
Developer knowledge assistants and copilots
Integrate LLMs (e.g. OpenAI, Claude, Gemini) into:
Developer platforms
Internal tools and automation pipelines
CI/CD and DevSecOps workflows
Implement Model Context Protocol (MCP) and advanced tool integration patterns where applicable.
Technical Leadership & Delivery
Act as technical lead across AI engineering engagements.
Own solution design, architecture, and hands-on delivery of AI solutions.
Guide engineering teams on best practices for:
Agentic design patterns
LLM integration and orchestration
Scalability, performance, and reliability
Ensure alignment to security, governance, and responsible AI frameworks.
Provide mentorship and technical oversight to engineers and consultants.
Client Engagement & Innovation
Work directly with clients to shape and refine AI use cases and solution approaches.
Translate business problems into agentic AI workflows and technical solutions.
Lead workshops, ideation sessions, and rapid prototyping engagements.
Present solution designs, demos, and PoCs to both technical and executive stakeholders.
Practice Contribution
Develop reusable agent frameworks, accelerators, and reference architectures.
Contribute to internal IP including:
Agent orchestration patterns
RAG frameworks
AI workflow templates
Stay at the forefront of agentic AI, LLM advancements, and developer tooling.
Support pre-sales activities and contribute to proposals and solution shaping.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience:
7+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, or DevOps.
Proven experience delivering AI/ML or LLM-based solutions in production or advanced PoC environments.
Experience leading technical delivery or acting as a senior/lead engineer.
Technical Skills:
Strong experience in several of the following areas:
Agentic AI & LLM Engineering
Hands-on experience building AI agents and agentic workflows
Experience with LLM platforms (e.g. OpenAI, Claude, Gemini)
Prompt engineering, evaluation, and optimisation techniques
Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
Azure AI & Cloud
Azure AI Foundry and Azure AI services
Azure Functions, Logic Apps, API Management
Cloud-native and microservices-based architectures
Developer Productivity & DevOps
GitHub and GitHub Copilot (enterprise usage and optimisation)
CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
AI-assisted software engineering practices
Engineering & Integration
Strong programming capability (Python, C#, or TypeScript)
API development and integration patterns
Event-driven and distributed systems design
Soft Skills:
Strong clients focus and ensure effective relationships are in place with key client stakeholders to deliver that service.
Excellent client relationship management skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong stakeholder management skills interfacing with diverse stakeholders. i.e., General Manager, Head of Architecture, Solution Architecture.
Solid experience in relationship management, conflict resolution, influencing and negotiation.
Must be able to work independently but also lead Consulting engagements in a highly matrixed environment (especially for short-term engagements).
A team player who can liaise effectively with a diverse group of delivery teams to ensure a positive experience for the customer.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Microsoft Azure or AI certifications.
Experience delivering enterprise technology consulting engagements.
Experience building or deploying agent-based AI systems in enterprise environments.
Experience running AI PoCs, hackathons, or innovation sprints.
Experience building AI-enabled developer platforms or internal tools.
Understanding of AI governance, safety, and guardrails.
Experience implementing AI coding assistants at enterprise scale.
Strong background in cloud platforms and DevOps ecosystems.
